Thanksgiving Eve is the last chance to make sure you have everything in the house before the big day, which meant packed grocery stores and pizza shops on Wednesday.
All day, the steady check-out lines at Giant on Pantops full of people who couldn't help but leave some shopping until last minute.
"Yep, last minute. Got everything tonight for tomorrow. I'm actually surprised it isn't more packed than it already is," said Hope Bagley of Charlottesville.
Then there's the lucky few who aren't worrying about Thanksgiving food but were out to get their regular groceries.
"Typically my family and I get together and cook a traditional meal but this time I'm going to relax and let someone else cater it for me for once," said Gordonsville resident Wendi Frye. "So I didn't have to get much tonight, I'm pretty calm, just strolling around the store because I don't have to rush home to prepare a meal this year."
Right next door is Christians Pizza, which was just as crowded as Giant on Wednesday night. With too much to do for tomorrow, some say a quick and easy American dish before the big American holiday is the way to go.
"Pizza before turkey, makes the turkey better. And plus, some of this will be leftover for tomorrow," said Allen Harvey, a Charlottesville resident.
Pizza was also a top pick for travelers who have a long night.
"This was kind of a three hour stop for us so, we got some pizza and now we'll be on our way for the rest of the night. It's a little break in the action for the kids so now we'll put on their pajamas and the rest of the way hopefully they'll fall asleep," said Jesse Morton of Virginia Beach. His family is on a ten hour drive to Ohio for Thanksgiving.
One employee said with so much laughter, love and good food to look forward to, there always has to be a little chaos beforehand.
