Planting a tree has become easier across Central Virginia. The Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards (CATS) are giving out $25 vouchers for local homeowners.
CATS is promoting the growth of native trees to Charlottesville and surrounding counties.
There are a few a requirements you have to meet before you are eligible. First, you must live on less than half an acre of land. Then, they ask that you call a utility company before you dig and finally, you must know the dimensions of the tree you selected.
Norm Carlson, from Snow's Garden Center, said, "Planting some trees in the yard, it helps with so many different things. It's great for the environment to get the carbon dioxide out of the air and get the oxygen generation out of any kind of green plant. It will also give you some shade in your yard."
