A music venue popular with a number of independent bands around the world is getting some help.

The Garage is a music and art space attached to the First Episcopal Church on North First Street in Charlottesville.

An SUV crashed into one of its walls in September, which was the catalyst to start a campaign to renovate the space.

The goal is to reach $10,000 that would go toward fixing the wall, new floors, new lighting, a small camera to document the bands that come through and possibly a stipend for the bands who come and play free shows.

The general manager, Sam Bush, says he gets about 20 emails a week from bands who want to play at The Garage just for the experience.

They're spreading the word and a campaign video to rally the community for support to make The Garage better than ever.

"On one hand we're such a part of the Charlottesville community but on the other hand we want to be on the national stage," Bush said.

"Now people know that it actually exists. And what it's about and what we want it to be about and it's definitely recieved a lot of attention and a lot of support since the accident," he said.
