Just in time for Valentine's Day, Charlottesville has a new lovely title. Livability.com ranked Charlottesville in the top 5 on it's list of the "Top 10 Most Romantic Cities".
The websites says a romantic city has breath taking scenery, good food, and lots of activities. One of the activities mentioned in the list was ice skating at the Main Street Arena on the Downtown Mall.
Owner of the Main Street Arena, Mark Brown, said, "We see a lot of couples come in whether they are older couples we get a large number of wedding engagements and proposals down here. We even had a wedding on the ice once."
The old saying, "beauty is up to the eye of the beholder", is being put to the test. The websites sought to find small, intimate cities that cater toward couples. Charlottesville's rich history, abundant restaurants, and wineries with backdrops of the mountains, the city does sound romantic.
"Yes, I agree," said second year UVa. student, Kimberly Castleman, "There is a lot of history and a lot of pretty landscapes and things like that."
Budding relationships on UVa.'s grounds are easy to find with the architecture of the Rotunda to set the stage for romance. "It's always romantic to see people getting married in the chapel all the time. Sometimes people like to come in here an take their wedding pictures and I've heard of a few times people have gotten proposed to on the steps outside the Rotunda," said Castleman.
