Thousands Still Without Power

March 7, 2013

Wednesday's snow storm caused electrical problems all around Central Virginia and Dominion power crews have been out all morning trying to restore power for residents who have gone without for more than a day.

Crews have seen down lines due to fallen trees and they are trying to fix those problems. However, it has still been rough for residents who are still without power.

A resident of Barracks West Apartments spoke about how his family has been getting by.

“We are lucky enough to have a gas oven so we have been using that and we have water on the stove that we've been boiling to keep the humidity up,” says Will Boxler “Probably this afternoon we are going to lose all of our frozen food and we've taken all of our items out of the refrigerator and put them in a cooler on the back porch to keep them cool.”

A member of Dominion Power's Distribution Operations spoke to CBS19 and explained that there were over 56,000 without power in the Charlottesville area yesterday. Now that number is down to around 20,000.

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative released information on their outages. Along I-64 there were over 6,000 outages. The mountain area saw over 3,000 and substations like Cartersville, Columbia and Cunningham there were over 4,000
.
Dominion power anticipates that all of their customers will have power by the end of Friday. Until then, crews will continue to go out and repair those broken power lines.
