Thousands Visit Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival

May 12, 2013

The 33rd Annual Spring Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival drew thousands of visitors to Claudius Crozet Park this weekend. The two-day festival featured the work of more than 100 artists, most of them from Virginia.

There was also live music, a children's tent, local foods and wine tasting.

All the proceeds from the festival will benefit the park, which is an independently-owned community recreational facility.

Saturday saw a smaller crowd than usual because of the weather, but festival director Leslie Burns says Sunday's "bumper crowd" made up for it.

In all, about 5,000 people visited the festival, raising tens of thousands of dollars for the park.

Burns says most of the money will go toward general maintenance.

"I wish I could tell you it would go to something more glamorous, but a lot of it is filling potholes with gravel," said Burns.

Some money will be used to replace buildings damaged by the derecho and improving facilities.

"We do have long-term vision for the park, and in this community that is growing, I think that we can together come up with some really great ideas for things to do and improve the park," said Burns.
