Trial Date Set for Man Shot by Albemarle Co. Police

July 16, 2013

A man accused of attacking a police officer with a baton, then getting shot by that officer, has a trial date set.

On Tuesday, Josue Salinas-Valdez made a court appearance to establish his defense attorney and to schedule a jury trial.

He did not say anything in court, and his attorney did not want to make a comment about the case.

Salinas-Valdez was shot in the stomach by an Albemarle County police officer at his home on May 26.

He was in the hospital for more than a week.

Investigators say Salinas-Valdez threatened an officer with a baton, and ignored several warnings to drop it, before being shot.

His trial is set for February 10, 2014.
