Helen Dragas' job as rector of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors is in the hands of the Virginia General Assembly. They will decide next month if she should be re-confirmed, after she tried to force out UVa President Teresa Sullivan last summer.

A couple of lawmakers in Central Virginia say, based on Dragas' actions in the summer, they will vote to not confirm her.

A handful of lawmakers were at UVa on Wednesday to discuss the university's legislative priorities. The Dragas confirmation is one of the items on the list.

Senator Bryce Reeves and Delegate Rob Bell said they have not decided yet how to vote on the Dragas confirmation. They say they are waiting until the hearing to decide.

But one UVa professor says he is not sure what more these lawmakers need to hear.

"We've seen the evidence," said UVa Assistant Professor Peter Norton. "We've seen overwhelming evidence that there was a really incompetent decision made that, I think, ought to make it clear that the reappointment should not be confirmed."

Delegates Steve Landes and David Toscano said Wednesday that they plan to vote to not confirm Dragas. Hundreds of people from Charlottesville and the UVa community have supported an online petition asking the General Assembly to not confirm Dragas.

Dragas told a newspaper in Richmond last week that she wants to keep her job as rector, even if it requires "thick skin."
