STAUNTON, Va. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has accused a Staunton produce company of violating federal law by failing to make full payments to sellers.
The News Leader (http://bit.ly/Um9Nwf ) reports that the USDA alleges that Staunton Fruit & Produce Co. Inc. failed to promptly make full payments totaling more than $1.1 million to 32 sellers. The payments were for produce the company bought from May 2011 through June 2012.
The company could be banned from the produce industry for two years if the federal agency determines that it committed repeated and flagrant violations.
Staunton Fruit & Produce had no comment.
