Students at the University of Virginia are remembering a fourth-year student Sunday night who passed away Saturday after a boating accident in the Caribbean.
Casey Schulman was a foreign affairs major at the university, whom friends described as "the epitome of grace and kindness." She was taking part in the Semester at Sea program and died in a boating accident Saturday in Dominica.
Schulman was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. The Inter-Sorority Council at the university called Schulman an "inspiring woman who will be deeply missed. Her kindness, passion and vitality bettered the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her."
A small group of friends organized a prayer circle Sunday night and said a more formal ceremony to honor and remember Schulman is in the works.
FULL STATEMENT FROM THE INTER-SORORITY COUNCIL:
On behalf of the Inter-Sorority Council community, we extend our deepest sympathies and support to the friends and family of our beloved sister Casey Schulman. Casey was an inspiring woman who will be deeply missed; her kindness, passion and vitality bettered the lives of everyone lucky enough to know her. The support that the UVA community has shown during this difficult time brings us tremendous comfort and is a testament to what a wonderful woman Casey was.
Sincerely,
Andrea Kaplan
ISC President
