UVa Students Challenged to Create Healthier Society

Sept. 13, 2013

The University of Virginia is challenging its students to come up with ways to make personal health care better in the U.S.

The Open Grounds Challenge, in partnership with Hearst Business Media, is inviting all UVa students to imagine innovative ways to help people make better choices about their own health.

University officials say they expect some great ideas to come from their students.

"They are full of ideas about how they can have an impact in the world," says Director of Open Grounds Bill Sherman. "This provides an opportunity for them to think about new ideas for new programs, new devices, new computer apps, that can help people change their attitudes toward health and health care."

The first project submissions are due on October 11th. The first prize winner gets $15,000 to carry out his or her idea.
