To get the word out about Homeless Awareness Month members of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity stood outside of the Bank of America on the UVa Corner Thursday night.

They encouraged passers-by to donate canned food items or to purchase T-shirts to raise funds for the homeless.

The cold did not keep them inside. In fact, the weather conditions during this time of year is why they chose the month of November to host the event.

"We do this during this particular month to show that even though its cold, we know how cold it is for the homeless so we come out here and we stay out here to do our part to help the homeless in any possible way that we can." said Chudi Obi, one of the fraternity members.

The students stayed in position until Friday morning.
