RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Robert Swap of the University of Virginia has been named as the state's professor of the year.
Swap, a research professor of environmental sciences, received the award this week from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advance of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
The program honors the top undergraduate instructors in the country, but not every state always has a winner. This year, about 300 professors were nominated. There were 27 state winners and four national winners.
