VDOF Offers Fall Foliage Driving Tours

The Virginia Department of Forestry has released a list of the best routes to check out the fall foliage.

The routes on the list are off the beaten path, and not as well known as popular sites like Skyline Drive, which is currently closed because of the government shutdown

The list includes routes from Rockingham and Shenandoah counties, all the way to Highland county. The site also suggests a scenic route through Greene County along the Blue Ridge Turnpike.

VDOF says the fall color change happens the same time each year. The mountains are the most vibrant during mid to late October. The Piedmont and Coastal Plain's colors peak between late October and mid-November.
