Virginia State University (VSU) is taking steps to combat hazing.
This comes after two freshmen drowned last month trying to cross the Appomattox River, as part of an initiation ritual for a non-campus group.
VSU has announced an anti-hazing initiative that includes a task force and an online guide to help students make better decisions about which groups they join.
President Keith Miller says the efforts will also look for new ways to counsel students about the dangers of hazing.
