RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Lady Luck's reign as the face of the Virginia Lottery is over.
Lottery chief Paula Otto says Lady Luck, played by actress Melanie MacQueen, has been replaced by a character known as the Game Guy.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Otto announced the switch at a Retail Merchants Association meeting Friday.
The Lady Luck image of a disheveled, wry fairy princess has been linked to the lottery since 1990. Otto says Lady Luck was never intended to be a continuing character, but she lasted so long because of her popularity and MacQueen's acting talent.
The Game Guy is played by actor Jason Kypros. He's the central character in the lottery's "We're Game" ad campaign, which is based on the notion that Virginians will make a game out of anything.
