Charlottesville's acting treasurer says he wants the official title.
Jason Vandever made his campaign for treasurer official at a kick-off event at City Space on Wednesday.
He's been acting treasurer since Jennifer Brown stepped down last year citing health reasons.
Vandever says he'd like to focus on expanding online tax services, and his experience in the treasurer's office for the past few years can help him do that.
“Jennifer has taught me a lot about the office. I think there are a lot of nuances and intricacies. Because I've been there, I'd really have a chance to expand on those. So I would like to continue a lot of the programs that we're currently working on.”
The special election will be held on April 2nd with Vandever going up against independent John Pfaltz.
The treasurer's seat will also be up in November's general election.
