A car crash on Route 33 in Louisa County Thursday morning claimed the lives of 21 year old Derrick Burford and 18 year old Dawn Ross .

Ross, a senior at Louisa County High School, was set to graduate Friday.

According to the Virginia State Police, Ross and Burford were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Ross was in the passenger seat, when the car ran off the road and hit a tree east of Valentine Mill Road.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, police believe speed was a factor in the accident.

Students at Louisa County High School posted tweets asking students to wear Ross' initials on their hands to honor her memory during Friday's graduation ceremony.
