The Virginia Train Collectors held its 4th Annual Summer Train Show Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Charlottesville.
It featured over 70 vendors selling railroading equipment and plenty of train lovers admiring some pretty elaborate creations.
Organizers say train collecting has taken off in the last ten years because of modern technology which encourages people of all ages to take up the hobby.
"There's great interest in collecting the old trains as well as the new stuff but there's an abundance of items on the market now for young children. Thomas the Tank was started about 10 years ago by Lionel and has been very popular and has brought a lot of young children into the hobby," says Train Collectors Association Director Peter Primiani
Organizers say they expect see at least 1000 people at the Summer Train Show.
