Volunteers Hand Out Teddy Bears at Children's Hospital

April 23, 2013

University of Virginia doctors, nurses and other employees donated their time to stuff a bear for patients at the children's hospital.

Volunteers made their way to different stations. They stuffed, dressed and named their bear.

The teddy bears were later distributed to children staying in the hospital. Organizers say having a bear nearby can be comforting for kids during medical care.

"Hospitals give anxiety. Being a patient here and having a teddy bear is something that makes you feel comfortable," said Angela Taylor with UVa. Medical Center. "It's something that you're familiar with and teddy bears equal love and we want all of our patients to feel that sense of comfort and care and love here at the children's hospital.

Volunteers stuffed 150 teddy bears for young patients.
