UPDATE: City, County Voter Turnout Pacing Behind '08 Election

After enduring months of campaign stops and countless commercials, voters are finally getting their say. Polls in Virginia opened at 6am Tuesday morning.

As of 4pm, the Albemarle County Department of Voter Registration & Elections is reporting 41,047 people have voted, a turnout of 55 percent. Last presidential election, in November 2008, turnout was 59 percent at 4pm.

In the City of Charlottesville, the registrar reports 36.5 percent turnout as of 1pm. That equates to 12,112 voters. The turnout number is also lower than in the 2008 presidential election.

Polls closed at 7pm.
