Dick Woods Road in Albemarle County is back open after a chunk of it washed away last week.
Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have dumped thirty truck-loads of gravel into the ditch to fill it up.
They also replaced the drainage pipes that run under the road.
"It was the worst washout we had in Albemarle County and we thought it was important. We have a lot of truck traffic coming through here," says Joel Denunzio with VDOT. "The guys, they were out here Saturday, Sunday 12, 13 hour days. The guys have been working hard and we're proud of them."
The blocked road had been causing problems for people trying to get to the landfill.
On Tuesday morning VDOT will restrict traffic to one lane while the final clean-up of the work area is completed. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers; drivers should use caution when approaching the work zone and anticipate brief delays.
