Prizes were handed out at the ninth-annual Virginia Gingerbread Christmas. There were several categories and winners in the gingerbread house competition.
Elementary school student Riley Treub won in three categories, bringing home multiple prizes.
Adult competitors and winners were just as excited as the kids who entered the competition.
"It's a lot of work but really fun," said winner Grace Klonoski.
"We worked for four days and we didn't expect that it was going to take that long but I think it was worth while," said winner Melanie Pissarius.
Cash prizes were given out by the Rotary Club of Charlottesville. The houses featured ingredients like gingerbread, peppermints and fondant, and one team went through five pounds of sugar trying to make sugar glass.
