RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Prince George County woman is being held without bond after the deaths of her two children.
The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that 22-year-old Brittney Downing was arraigned on felony child neglect charges Friday in Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Prosecutor Shannon Taylor said Downing's 3-month-old daughter, Jade, and 20-month-old son, Jelani, were left in the mother's car during her 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift Sunday at a hotel. She said Downing was a flight risk and that the alleged neglect occurred while the defendant was free on bond awaiting trial in Colonial Heights on a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses.
Defense attorney Linda Lambert said that Downing has been threatened since she has been held in jail.
