Crozet Woman Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder of Husband

January 15, 2013

The Crozet woman accused of trying to kill her husband faced a judge on Tuesday, and pleaded guilty.

Theresa Lynn Brady wiped away tears as she stood in front of a judge in Albemarle County Circuit Court. Brady's husband, the man she admits she tried to kill, sat just a few feet away.

In August of 2012, police officers were called to the Brady home in the Fox Chase neighborhood of Crozet, after receiving a 911 hang up call from the residence. Brady's husband, James, had called police after waking up to find his wife trying to inject him with a syringe.

Brady admitted to police that she had tried to inject her husband with a lethal dose of insulin while he slept. Brady worked in the health care industry and said she stole the insulin from work at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Brady told police, "I flipped out and had enough. I just wanted my husband to go away. I didn’t care if he just went away or died.”

Brady went on to tell police she had suffered years of abuse at the hands of her husband.

In court, prosecutors for the Commonwealth agreed to a deal of charging Brady with second degree attempted murder in exchange for her guilty plea.

County Prosecutor Denise Lunsford told the judge in court that both parents did not want to put their young children through a very public trial.

The 33-year-old is facing a maximum sentence of four years. She must also pay restitution fees up to $15,000 for checks made out to her husband that she deposited in her own bank account. Theresa Brady will be back in court in June for sentencing.
