Woodberry Forest Students Help Build House for Local Family

November 3, 2013

A few students are making a difference in one family's life with the help of Habitat for Humanity.

More than 130 volunteers came out to Woodberry Forest Sunday to help build a house for a family in Unionville. Students from Woodberry Forest, along with members of Habitat for Humanity, hammered together the framing of the house, all to help make one family's dreams of owning a home come true.

Kevin Treacy a junior from Woodberry was there on Sunday helping hammer away.

"We've had several grade based projects, but this is the first time it's been done school wide." Treacy said.

Tom Gerdy a road trip leader for Habitat for Humanity was there to help oversee and encouraged the young men to "give them an opportunity to feel the feeling of what it feels like when you do move the world forward, and they are. They're moving the world forward one small step today."

"This gives us an opportunity to reach out and help the community know that we really appreciate it." said CJ Dunne, a Woodberry junior. "To be active in our community is a big part of what we want to do."

After building the walls, students will move them to the Unionville home site, where the home is expected to be completed in December.
