More than 5 million people in the United States have Alzheimer's disease, and a local group is working to help families in central Virginia better understand it.

A free workshop at the Colonnades Senior Living Community will cover the causes, symptoms and process of diagnosis of Alzheimer's and other types of dementia, including how to deal with difficult behavioral changes associated with the disease.

It's happening at the Colonnades on Barracks Road on Monday afternoon. The workshop will run from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
