We are getting closer and closer to have a YMCA in town.
But getting to this point hasn't been without its setbacks.
First, there was the lawsuit from local gyms, then the delay caused an increase in cost.
But their luck seems to have turned.
First, the State Supreme court recently dismissed the case.
So now after years of delays, the board is hopeful that this spring they will finally be able to break ground.
The facility will be 77,000-square-feet and house a fitness center and an aquatics center on the western side of McIntire Park.
And are people still interested in having a new YMCA?
Piedmont family YMCA board chairman Kurt Krueger says yes.
"If anything, our projections about memberships are probably understated in terms of what will really happen. To finance it for instance, we are projecting that we need about 4100 to 4200 members, the Lynchburg Y has 8800 members."
And we can we expect to see the final product?'
Krueger says it is about a 20 month process, so opening would happen at the beginning of 2016.
