Friday Governor Kaine announced the new Chief Medical Examiner for the commonwealth of Virginia.
Dr. Leah Bush will replace retiring Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Marcella Fierro, who has served as the CME for the past 13 years. Bush will begin her service on January 1st 2008.
Bush has served as Assistant Chief Medical Examiner in the Tidewater District of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner since 1986.
“I am pleased a leading member of Virginia’s forensic pathology team will take on this critical role,” said Governor Kaine.
Bush has taught forensic pathology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Virginia Commonwealth University. She earned her M.D. at the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU School of Medicine) in 1984.
