Imagine going to the dentist for something like a root canal or a cavity, but not having to worry about the pain.

There is new technology is taking some of the bite out of a visit to the dentists' chair.

It's called the Waterlase MD and it's part of the latest wave of dental technology.

It uses high speed water power as a drill, virtually taking the pain out of most dental procedures.

"There's a certain group patients in the area and throughout the world that's afraid to go to the dentist and this technology was just another avenue, another tool for us to really give those patients a much better experience when they come here," said Dr. Brad Spano, of South Side Dental in Albemarle County, who uses the technology.

The Waterlase can be used for many dental procedures and is even safe for kids.
