February 15, 2008

Here's something that may be hard to swallow, 46 percent of school age children in Charlottesville are considered over weight.

Saturday night UVa's Health System is sponsoring a gala called the main event, to benefit the Children's Fitness Clinic.

This clinic at the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center works one on one with overweight kids overcome problems associated with obesity.

“I don't think we're going to see a change in this trend towards America being more and more overweight, without extra support from society, so like I said a clinic like this needs extra help in being able to reach out to these people,” said Mark DeBoer, UVa Assistant Professor of Pediatrics.

If you would like to attend Saturday night's gala. It begins at 6:30 at the Darden School of Business.

The cost per couple is $350. All proceeds benefit the Children's Fitness Clinic.
