Even though it is still summer, a flu alert is going out to Fluvanna schools via a letter to parents of children at the elementary, middle, and high schools. Testing is underway to determine if the flu outbreak is swine flu.
The letter reads in part, "Several cases of flu-like illnesses have been identified in this first week of school. While it is unusual to see flu at this time of year, it is not unexpected."
Superintendent Dr. Tom Smith says parents have reacted calmly to the news, and school is continuing normally while experts determine if any of the cases are the swine flu.
