Local health officials are making sure people in Central Virginia are prepared for the H1N1 swine flu. Thursday, they held a public briefing to spread the word.
The Thomas Jefferson Health District Health Director along with local health officials shared the most up-to-date information about the flu.
They're working with local physicians to make sure they're staffed and prepared for the worst.
Officials from the University of Virginia say they've already had some recent hospital cases. They're taking precautions to prevent the spread of the virus through the hospital. A vaccine is expected to be available by mid-October. UVa says they'll try and set up clinics to help students get those vaccinations.
"At this point, we're trying to look at all of the specific groups that maybe have a special risk, or are at more risk of complications from influenza, and we're trying to get information out to them," says Dr. Lilian Peake with the Thomas Jefferson Health District.
