The first of several H1N1 vaccine shipments is on its way to Virginia.
The Virginia State Health Commissioner, Karen Remley, says the small shipment is being sent out early to test the distribution system.
The first shipment will be for vaccinating those who care for the sick, such as health care workers.
Remley says this will protect patients by making sure there's enough health care providers to take care of patients, and that the swine flu won't spread to those who are sick and are more vulnerable to the flu.
Additional doses of vaccine will continue to arrive over the coming weeks.
“There will be enough vaccine for all those in Virginia who wish to be vaccinated against this highly contagious novel H1N1 flu virus,” stresses Remley.
The first doses will be in the form of a nsal spray, which is recommended for use only by healthy people ages two to 49.
