Some Clinics Running Low on Seasonal Flu Vaccine

A vaccine for the H1N1 swine flu is expected in Virginia in a matter of days, but the seasonal flu vaccines are already available. However, supplies may run out. We're hearing reports that some local doctors are running low on the regular flu shots.
At clinics like Crozet Family Medicine, doctors are having trouble providing enough of the vaccine. It's because the companies that make those vaccines are doing double-duty, producing the swine flu vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine.
"Most of those manufacturers are also being asked to make the H1N1 vaccine. So they're having to split their manufacturing time between a couple of different vaccines," says Janet Silvester with Martha Jefferson Hospital.
While some flu shot providers say they're running short, others say they have plenty. Doctors advice you call ahead if you want the shot.
