The Charlottesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, In and the UVa health system partnered up on Sunday.

They held a free health fair for members of the community.

It focused on healthy living practices for women of African decent.

Experts were on hand to talk about the health risks that mainly affect African Americans.

"If you can come into the community and make the same information available as well as screenings for blood pressure and HIV, blood pressure and things like that, it makes it easier for them to have information on how important it is for them to pay attention to their health and things that are going to keep them healthy overall," said Dr. Dayo Lanier.

Some of the diseases that have higher infection rates among African Americans include HIV, AIDS, cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure.
