When the temperatures drop, skin can get painfully dry. Doctors say the number one way to combat dry winter skin is to moisturize several times a day, especially after bathing. Also, remember sunscreen isn't
just for summer.
"On a winter day on a cloudy day, even if you're sitting inside, the
ultraviolet radiation comes through the window," says Dr. Monica Halem.
If you do want some color in the winter Dr. Halem says consider self tanning creams or lotions, but stay away from the tanning salon. Doctors say it's the worst thing you can do for your skin.
When it's bitter cold out most of us pull out the winter hat and gloves, but some fabrics like wool can actually irritate over-dry skin.
So stock up on moisturizer. Even consider using Vaseline. Limit using hot water and soap and keep those humidifiers running.
One more tip: try taking a Vitamin D supplement. Doctors say it's crucial to maintaining healthy skin all year around.
