In this week's What's Going Around, Dr. Brooke Bostic of Greene Family Medicine says he's treating several people for colds.
When it comes to treatment, Dr. Bostic recommends a few different medications depending on your symptoms. For a cough he recommends Mucinex, Robitussin or other cough syrups. Antihistamines and decongestants work best for a runny nose.
For head and body aches he recommends ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If you have nasal congestion, Dr. Bostic suggests a decongestant or saline nasal spray.
There are also things you can do to prevent getting a cold. They include washing your hands frequently and drinking plenty of fluids.
Dr. Bostic is reminding people to follow the instructions on the medicine label because overdosing on decongestants can be hazardous.
