Gas prices nationwide are the highest they've been in six years, just in time for the upcoming holiday weekend travel.

Auto club AAA projects some 41 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles this Independence Day weekend, and those drivers will have to shell out a little more at the pump.

Higher crude oil prices have caused the average price at the pump to increase for 12 consecutive days. Nationally, gas costs $3.68 per gallon.

Charlottesville's average is a little cheaper, at $3.38 per gallon.
