Dozens of Locals Among the Thousands at Washington Rally

August 28, 2010

Dozens of local people are among the thousands who attended the Restoring Honor Rally in Washington Saturday.

The rally was held on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin were among the headlining speakers.

The Jefferson Area Tea Party provided buses for local people who wanted to attend. One attendee told CBS19 the rally was very calm, as it honored soldiers and citizens who embody what makes the country great.

"It was pretty much to honor our soldiers and the virtues of our better citizens, kind of restoring the honor was kind of the theme," Albemarle County resident Steven Peters said. "We're a virtuous people, you have to be virtuous to have a republic, otherwise you cannot exist in one."

Peters described the event as "nonpolitical," saying it was very calm, and people were civil.
