Voters elected Steve Smith as the next Greene County Sheriff. He received 55% of the vote over opponent Randall Snead, a Major in the Greene County Sheriff's Office.
Smith, who currently serves as Master Deputy in the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office, says he will implement new programs in the sheriff's department and enhance community response.
"It's a great feeling to have this much support. I'm just really looking forward to starting the new job," said Smith.
On the Greene County Board of Supervisors, Davis Lamb will represent the Ruckersville District. David Cox won over incumbent Supervisor Michael Skeens in the Monroe District. Eddie Deane beat incumbent Supervisor Carl Schmitt in the at-large seat on the board.
There will also be two new members of the Greene County School board. Sharon Mack will represent the Ruckersville District and Rodney Kibler won the Monroe District seat.
