White House Democratic Campaigns Move Into Virginia

February 5, 2008

(AP) Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton started upping the ante in Virginia and next week's pivotal primaries as they battled for Super Tuesday delegates.

Clinton plans to campaign Wednesday in northern Virginia. Tuesday, the former first lady became the first Democrat to commit to attend Saturday's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Democratic fundraising dinner in Richmond.

Clinton's staff on Monday announced its 106-member statewide steering committee. The list includes novelist John Grisham.

For Obama, endorsements continue rolling in as four mayors of major Virginia cities announced their support. Richmond Mayor Doug Wilder endorsed Obama in January.
