Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton spoke to union workers in Pennsylvania Monday calling Obama's words offensive and disappointing.
Clinton went on to say that people are looking for a president that stands up for voters and doesn't look down on them.
"I believe that people don't cling to religion they value their faith. You don't cling to guns, you enjoy hunting or collecting or sports shooting," said Clinton.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has criticized the comment as "elitist," while Obama has mocked the New York senator's own recent emphasis on support for gun owners' rights.
