Large Gap in Fundraising between Warner and Gilmore

May 22, 2008

(AP) - Mark Warner continues to hold a huge fundraising advantage in the U.S. Senate race.

The Warner campaign said a report being prepared Thursday for the Federal Elections Commission shows the Democrat has raised nearly $8 million. Republican Jim Gilmore's report shows he's raised about $1 million. That includes a $50,000 from the candidate to his own campaign.

Since April 1, Warner has raised nearly $1.5 million to just over $180,000 for Gilmore. Warner has more than $5.2 million on hand to Gilmore's approximately $205,000.

Gilmore faces opposition for the Republican nomination from state Delegate Bob Marshall, who raised nearly $27,000 since April 1. He has nearly $23,000 in the bank.
