Virginia's extra fee on hybrid vehicles is under attack in the General Assembly.
On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Finance passed a bill that would get rid of the $64 annual tax on fuel-efficient cars and trucks in the Commonwealth.
“Taxation should be simple, uniform and transparent. The hybrid penalty is none of those," said Senator Chap Petersen (D - Fairfax). "I'm pleased that the members of the committee agree that's its time to stop this unfair penalty.”
The hybrid tax was a part of Governor Bob McDonnell's transportation funding plan that passed last year.
The bill now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
