Center for Politics Starts Voter Registration Drive

September 12, 2008

The UVA Center for Politics is trying to mobilize students to register to vote before the November elections and the voter registration deadline.

The deadline to register to vote in Virginia is October 6, which is less than a month away.

The U.Va. Student Voter Registration Coalition began in 2004 to engage student leaders in voter registration.

The Coalition is led by CFP interns, and includes prominent on-grounds groups such as the Student Council, the College Republicans, and the University Democrats. By Friday, the coalition has reached more than 1,400 students out of their goal of 2,008 students by Election Day. Coalition coordinators have also encouraged their fellow students to become poll workers on Nov. 4.

2008 Coalition Members include:
Black Student Alliance
College Republicans
Hoos for Obama
La Alianza
Latino Student Union
Minority Rights Coalition
Queer and Allied Activism
Student Council
Virginia Organizing Project
Voxx (Voices for Planned Parenthood)
University Democrats
U.Va. School of Architecture
U.Va. School of Nursing
