(AP) - If Barack Obama ally and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has a new role under a Democratic White House, it won't be as the party's national chairman.
Speculation arose the past week that Kaine might be in line to head the Democratic National Committee after chairman Howard Dean steps down.
Kaine said he was asked about his interest in the position. At a
Wednesday news conference, he said he'd rather be governor and won't do both.
Kaine has said repeatedly he wants to finish his nonrenewable term. That would exclude a post requiring him to move to Washington and allow Republican Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling to serve out his final year.
