Race for Sheriff in Charlottesville Begins

One day after Charlottesville's Sheriff announced she would not seek another term, the race for her position has started.

Thursday, James E. Brown announced his candidacy. Brown is currently an Albemarle County Police Officer.

He said his experience and education in law enforcement makes him the right person for the job and he hopes to step up the Sheriff's role in the community.

Cornelia Johnson has been Charlotettesville's Sheriff since 1998. Voters will decide who fills her seat in November.

On Friday, Michael Baird, Charlottesville's Chief Deputy Sheriff, is expected to announce his candidacy.
