Virginia Young Democrats Host 2009 State Convention in C'ville

Charlottesville is hosting the Virginia Young Democrats 2009 State Convention. The three-day conference started Friday and wraps up on Sunday. Gov. Tim Kaine and Rep. Tom Perriello will be speaking at the awards ceremony held at the Omni Hotel Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

On Sunday, a panel will be held with the candidates for lieutenant governor.

The conference is scheduled in the midst of a highly competitive three-way primary race for governor with Terry McAuliffe, Brian Moran, and Creigh Deeds. They're all hoping to be the Democrat chosen to run against the Republican candidate Bob McDonnell.

Former GOP presidential canddiate and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, will headline the Commonwealth Gala at the 2009 Republican Convention in Richmond on Friday, May 29.

Romney will lend his support to Bob McDonnell's campaign for governor.
