(AP) - Republican Bob McDonnell is expected to report his campaign raised $2.2 million the first three months of 2009.
Three Democrats running in a June primary to oppose McDonnell this fall reported preliminary fundraising numbers last week.
McDonnell's take ranks second to former Democratic national chairman Terry McAuliffe. A $1 million donation on March 11 from the Republican Governors Association in Washington accounts for about half McDonnell's total.
McDonnell claimed $3.5 million on hand.
McAuliffe said last week he will report $4.2 million raised when Board of Election filings are due Wednesday.
Democrat Brian Moran said he raised $800,000, with about that much on hand. Democrat Creigh Deeds raised about $600,000, and had $1.2 million on hand.
